This clock unfortunately fell from it's wall fixing onto a flagstone floor, the resulting condition to the untrained eye considered this clock had ticked it's last beat.
After many painstaking hours correcting the many issues to the movement and obviously the casework, which has been undertaken by my cabinet maker of over thirty five years.
I have now returned the clock to the my client and she is amazed that this standard of work can still be achieved in today's world.
Whilst this was a very time consuming project it is very satisfying to bring a clock in this poor condition back to life again to "beat" on for many years to come.
Case work
Initially making the back box stable again by removing all the old glue and then re-glueing all the splayed joints solid again.
Once all sections had been clamped accurately back together using over twenty clamps it was then a job of flattening out all highs and lows and creating a surface suitable to accept several applications of polish to achieve as near original patina as possible.
All of the veneering work was the existing original mahogany veneer delicately replaced back into its position onto the back-box carcass, no new or replacement veneer has been applied.
Movement Work
On impact with the floor (due to the weight of the twin fusee movement) it tore two of the dial legs out of the false plate, sheared off the centre arbor pivot, the pallet arbor pivot and laid two teeth over on the escape wheel.
Fortunately this movement was well overdue for a service having not been touched by any horologist in the last thirty years, so all the repairs and service were undertaken at the same time.
I have restored many clock projects of this type over my working life for trade associates and private clients alike. These clients have placed their trust in my skills over the years and also realize that I actually undertake all mechanical clock repair/restoration myself, and I do not sub contract any clock work to third parties.
Whilst this is my business I consider I have been very fortunate to spend the last forty five years working with these horological items that I am extremely passionate about.
